How to Prevent Overdrafts

Cover your financial bases, just in case.

The best way to prevent overdrafts is to monitor the funds in your checking account. However, at First Financial Bank, we understand that life happens sometimes, and occasionally overdrafts follow. As a result, we’ve created a series of options to help prevent overdrafts for our customers.

Overdraft Protection

With First Financial’s basic overdraft protection, you choose to have the bank automatically transfer money into your checking account from another one of your deposit accounts (provided the funds are available) in increments of $5.00 when you do not have enough money in your checking account to pay the items. This does not include ATM withdrawals or debit card transactions. There is a $5.00 charge each day a transfer occurs.

Overdraft Privilege

With Overdraft Privilege, you choose to have the bank, upon its discretion, pay items, except ATM withdrawals and debit card transactions, when you do not have enough money in your account, up to your overdraft limit. There will be a $35.00 fee per item, whether paid or returned.

Overdraft Privilege Plus

Overdraft Privilege Plus gives you all of the benefits of Overdraft Privilege as well as the added protection for one-time debit card purchases and ATM withdrawals. There will be a $35.00 fee per item, whether paid or returned.

No Overdraft Privilege or Protection

By declining all overdraft options, you choose to have the bank return all items when there is not enough money in your account to cover a check or debit transaction. There will be a $35.00 fee per item, whether paid or returned, in addition to any fees the merchant may charge for a returned item.
